Highlights from British Universities Summer School Participants

The following statements are excerpted from comments sent to us by teachers who participated in the BUSS program (the sponsoring ESU Branch is indicated after each quote):

“Studying for three weeks at the Globe was one of the highlights of my teaching career. I was impressed with being taught by the professionals who were the teachers and directors of the actors themselves.”

- Denver Branch

"As a veteran teacher, I continually strive to be open and fresh in my approach to literature, my students, and life. This summer sponsored by the ESU gave me yet another opportunity to explore the language, literature, and heritage that I love. I will share, most enthusiastically, what I have learned with my fellow teachers and students."

- Naples Branch

"I can't thank the ESU enough for this opportunity to work with such talented, supportive, warm, and funny people as the staff at Globe Education."

- Portland Branch

"The receipt of the scholarship to the University Edinburgh was a great benefit to my professional life. Being in such an intense program with some of the finest students and educational professionals provided a first-hand opportunity to interact with them in a cooperative learning situation. Rather than me being the "teacher role", I was able to participate in some of the different techniques utilized by students and teachers from many cultures."

- Naples Branch

"I was so excited to use and to pass on what I learned in terms of content, analytical techniques, and teaching methods when I returned to the classroom."

- New Orleans Branch

"As the school year goes by, I have found my teaching style reflects the discipline, creativity, intrigue, and excitement I experienced at Exeter College/Oxford University. Without being aware of teaching styles I am emulating from Oxford, I watch my students become more involved as I did while studying in England. It is amazing to watch my students feed off my greater than before enthusiasm for English Literature. In turn, the students' curiosity is sparked and they are more eager to learn. It is absolutely due to my rewarding exerience in the Literature Program at Exeter!"
